WHY YOU WANT AN OUTDOOR VIDEO SYSTEM

Spending time outdoors in the spring, summer, and fall can be spiritually refreshing, as well as a great stress reliever. Having a television outside during these months will just make the outdoor experience that much better. However, is it ok to put a television made for indoor use outside, even if you take it inside during the winter? The answer is an emphatic NO!

You wouldn’t not stain or protect your wood decking, would you? The same holds true for an outdoor television. Outdoor televisions are a completely different animal. Indoor televisions don’t have to worry about insects, rain, bright sunlight, or high winds. Precisely why they can’t go outside, unless you want to keep replacing the television at regular intervals. Outdoor televisions need to be much brighter than an indoor one, obviously to counteract the sun. Their brightness is rated in nits. Nits are a unit of light measurement. A good ballpark for an outdoor display is about 1,000 nits. They are available in three different categories:

Full Shade | Partial Sun | and Full Sun.

The more protection you need, the higher the price. The cabinet needs to be sealed so bugs and precipitation don’t get inside and damage the circuitry. The screens need to be able to withstand high winds and pelting rain. Life isn’t easy for these televisions.

The other item that needs careful consideration is the mount. Just as the television needs to be made for outdoors, so does the mount. It needs to be able to bear the environment as much as the television does. And don’t forget the remote. Any television that comes with a remote, which is most of them, also must be outdoor rated.
